Sumy State University

Sumy State University, which dates back to 1948, is a leading higher educational institution of Sumy region (Ukraine), a powerful scientific, educational and production complex and an acknowledged cultural and sport center.

More than 16 thousand students are getting their education at SSU. Among them are about 1240 foreign students from almost 60 countries of the world, including Western Europe, Asia, Africa and the USA.

Sumy State University conducts training on 60 specialties of 40 areas and 23 fields of knowledge (computer science; informatics; applied mathematics; mechanics; automatics and controlling; electronics; nanotechnology; electrical engineering; energetics; mechanical engineering; materials science; chemical engineering; ecology; quality, standardization, certification; economics and business; management; medicine; law; journalism; translation etc.)

The University is highly ranked among Ukrainian universities according to the worldwide rating Webometrics (6th position in January 2013) and scientific and metrical database Scopus (17th position in July 2012).

It is among the top three universities in Ukraine according to a number of prize-winning places at All-Ukrainian students Olympiads and at All-Ukrainian competitions of students’ scientific work.  

The University is a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum and a full member of International Association of Universities, European Association of Universities, Eurasian Association of Universities, Association of Economic Universities of South and Eastern Europe and the Black Sea Region and other international organizations.

High quality training of professionals is provided in training centers of international organizations such as MICROSOFT Corporation, NETCRACKER, CISCO, DELCAM PLC, SIEMENS and others that have their branches at SSU.

85 doctors of sciences, professors and about 480 candidates of sciences and associate professors demonstrate high quality of teaching.

Educational complex of SSU is composed by Medical Institute, Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies, Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, Faculty of Economics and Management, 2 Institutes in Shostka and Konotop, 4 colleges, technical schools, 2 scientific-educational centers of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, scientific center of rocket forces and artillery. The University complex combines also nearly 40 secondary schools, lyceums and gymnasiums.

SSU is recognized as a highly technological institution due to thousands of computers, computer cluster and free WiFi zones; modern library and information complex with more than two and a half million books and copies, thousands of rare books, electronic archive of rare publications and manuscripts of the 16-18 centuries.

Sixty sports clubs, about thirty kinds of sport activities, over 40 amateur-talent groups, art studios and vocal, musical, ballet, theater, film and photography clubs serve students to spend their free time.

SSU students-athletes became multiple winners of the World, European, Ukrainian Championships, Olympic Games and the World Cups and All-Ukrainian Student Games in such kinds of sports as boxing, biathlon, canoeing, karate, judo, archery, ski racing, orienteering, athletics, and weightlifting.

The life of our University is creative, dynamic and rapidly developing. Every day thousands of students for whom it has become Alma Mater take their first steps in the boundless world of scientific and professional knowledge.
